Bluebone leader Jay Bethel has played various instruments in a wide variety of bands, including rock, blues, country, and lounge acts. He even played guitar for an Elvis impersonator. Heavily influenced by Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers, BB, Freddie, and Albert King, his guitar weeps and hollers throughout Bluebone's music. Jay's vocals are warm and soulful, as he plays the music he truly loves. Bluebone has been the vehicle for Jay’s musical passion for ten years. The band has evolved over the years, with some personnel coming and going, but the result is an amazingly tight, emotional trio. The band has a sparseness that allows every small nuance to get out there, yet it’s incredibly full for a trio. Power and feel…that’s Bluebone. A former building contractor, cook, engineer, and fire chief, Jay Bethel brings a life-long passion for the adventurous to all of his performances and recordings. Jay’s partner in this current powerhouse is Van Burriss, a bass player with vast experience in providing the motor that makes things go. His style is a great complement to Jay’s guitar work, and the two sing together with ease. As a group, Bluebone boasts over 100 years of live performance experience playing various kinds of music. They all believe that blues are the basis of nearly everything they have played in the past, and they bring those various flavors back home- to the blues. They know how to play and they play what they love.
