From the north winds of SBC and out of the back woods of Niles, Michigan harkens Jake (Mulche’ les’ Mongoose) Cinninger. As a lad in such a small town, staying out of trouble meant ripping it up on various animals of the instrumental nature. Jake’s parents were keen to the development and granted him record player privileges at the age of 3. His influences, such as Leo Kottke, Miles Davis, Weather Report, John Lee Hooker, and Yes, cluttered this little kid’s brain. Starting at the age of 12, he was playing in countless country, rock, and jazz gigs…good money for a school kid playing a solid three nights a week. His guitar skills seemed crafted overnight, but Jake continued to perfect his musical thumbprint. Jake played with a fusion power trio Ali Baba’s Tahini, but by 2000, Jake was ready for a new band. As luck would have it, the Umphrey’s boys met up with Jake, and jumped at the opportunity to bring this versatile musician into their fold. A few practices later, it became plain as the nose on their faces that they had found the full, rich sound and great musical diversity for which they were searching in Jake. He joined up full-time with the band, and together they set their sights on becoming the successful International act they are today. And Jake found himself a motley crew of diverse music lovers to share his unending library of hair metal, prog rock, and obscure CD’s and albums.
