With a playing CV that includes Paul Weller, Robbie Williams, Mick Jagger and Sinead O'Connor, Yolanda Charles has long been respected as one of the UK's most versatile bass talents.
In addition to work as a session player, Yolanda has written music for almost as long as she's been playing. Her first album (under the Mamayo banner) was released in 2003 and features the vocal talents of Carleen Anderson, Shaun Escoffery, Vanessa Freeman and Mandy Lecointe. Recently the 'Mamayo project' has expanded to the organizing of live events showcasing the best bass-playing talent from the UK, Europe and beyond. Paul Jackson (The Headhunters) and French wizard Hadrien Feraud have already featured in the North London gigs, as has Yolanda's own band The Deep MO. The funk-fusion act sees Yolanda lead a group of top-notch players delivering deeply groovy, soulful tunes with real style, as showcased on their 2012 album Funk In The Third Quarter.
