What causes ordinary guitar strings to go dead?

You do. Every time you pick up your guitar and play, you leave tiny bits of dead skin, body oils, sweat, and all types of gunk loitering on your strings. Stuck between the windings (a space we call the “Critical Zone of Tone”), these contaminants dampen vibration and accelerate corrosion.
