Elixir® Strings and Taylor Guitars Help Support Breakout Artists with Test Drive 2009

NASHVILLE, TN, JUNE 7, 2009 — Elixir Strings and Taylor Guitars are giving emerging artists the unique opportunity to kick their careers and guitar rigs into high gear with Test Drive 2009. Together, the companies will outfit five selected artists with their world-class guitars, cables, and strings. One final winner will get to record in a marquee studio using Elixir Strings and Taylor Guitars.

Submission into the contest is free and easy. From July 1 through July 31 artists can simply log on to the Sonicbids promotion site, where they can upload their Sonicbids artist profile. Submission fees will be covered in full by Elixir Strings and Taylor Guitars.

The Sonicbids Web site helps bands get gigs and promoters book the right bands. With festivals, clubs, colleges, music licensing and much more, Sonicbids offers a diverse range of gigs for every kind of musician. Artist profiles submitted on Sonicbids will then be posted on the Test Drive 2009 Web site,, where fans will have a chance to vote for their favorites.

From these initial submissions, 25 of the top-voted artists will move up in the competition. A panel made up of the artist relations teams from Elixir Strings and Taylor Guitars will then select the top five artists from the top-voted 25. These five finalists will be outfitted with Taylor Guitars SolidBody electric guitars, a supply of Elixir Strings, and Elixir® Cables. They will then have to produce a video of themselves giving this high-end gear a "test drive," profiling how they're using the gear on stage and in the studio.

The five artist videos will be posted on and put to a second round of voting. The winning band from this vote will receive time in a marquee studio to record an EP using their Elixir Strings and Taylor Guitars gear.

"We recognize that the road of an emerging artist is not an easy one. With the Test Drive 2009 competition we're looking to help these players gain recognition in more cities and areas than they previously had before," says Craig Theorin, Elixir Strings product specialist. "In addition this competition also offers players an opportunity to use some great gear and possibly win some studio time."

About Elixir® Strings
Elixir Strings is the pioneer in coated string technology and is available in two string "flavors". Strings with ultra-thin NANOWEB® Coating provide the bright tone and punch of uncoated strings, yet keep their lively tone three to five times longer than ordinary strings. Elixir Strings with original POLYWEB® Coating also sound great three to five times longer than ordinary strings, have a balanced tone with smooth response, feel comfortably smooth and reduce finger squeak. Elixir Strings are available in a full range of gauges for acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, banjo and mandolin.

Today, Elixir Strings are installed as original equipment by a growing list of discriminating electric guitar and bass manufacturers, including Ibanez, Tom Anderson Guitarworks, Brian Moore Guitars, Carvin, Melancon Guitars as well as premium acoustic guitar luthiers such as Taylor Guitars, Santa Cruz Guitar Company, Lakewood Guitars, CA Guitars, Carvin, and Goodall Guitars.
